Caitlin, Elena & Priya, the Founders of Event First Steps, will talk with Mark Maher about how best to prepare for the challenges that you may face in the early stages of your event career.
Caitlin is a Digital Producer at George P Johnson UK. She has worked agency side for over 5 years – within Sales and Marketing, Strategy and Planning, and Digital teams – and has always had a keen interest in helping those starting out in the industry, having written an award winning events blog for 7 years.
Priya started out in the events industry later in life, having made the decision to transition from a career in the travel world. On her own journey, she finally found her feet as the sales manager for an event catering company. Event First Steps is important to her as she would have benefited from something like this when she was starting out herself.
Elena is a creative producer working on international events from conception through to delivery. She works with clients to translate their brand and campaign strategy into the live environment. Elena’s career path was influenced by building her network of contacts before graduating and she is keen to help other newcomers find their feet in the same way.
Event First Steps
The Event First Steps initiative works to help industry newcomers of all ages and abilities to build their networks, learn from industry heavyweights and forge their own career path.It was formed when the co-founders discovered, through personal experience, that that the gap between what is taught and what it is like to work in the events industry is huge. They understood that taking the first steps in the events sector is daunting no matter age or previous experience, and wanted to do something to change that through creating a community of like minded people.
