What is self care and why is it so important for mental health?
Self care encourages you to maintain a healthy relationship with yourself so that you can transmit the good feelings to others. You cannot give to others what you don’t have yourself. While some may misconstrue self-care as selfish, it’s far from that.
Self care relies on increased self awareness, which can also benefit people who are living with a chronic mental health condition or acute illness. Practicing self awareness can help you to recognise patterns in your emotions, including events or situations that can trigger worsened symptoms.
Mental self care involves activities that help declutter your mind and reduce your stress levels. Taking care of your mental health can seem difficult when life gets busy with work and life. By scheduling time each day to care of your mental health, you can reduce your stress and improve your overall happiness.
Self love is a state of appreciation for oneself that grows from actions that support our physical, psychological and spiritual growth. Self love means having a high regard for your own well-being and happiness. Self-love means taking care of your own needs and not sacrificing your wellbeing to please others
