Ask the Board? What’s the secret to a good night’s sleep?

Snatch forty winks, get some shut-eye, be in the land of nod, have a kip, get one’s head down, whatever term you use the majority of us in the world of events could probably do with getting a better nights sleep right?

But in the busy, noisy and technology filled world we live in how do we do it?

We thought we’d ask some of our sleep advocates on the EventWell board to share their pearly wisdom on how to end the day in the arms of Morpheus*.

“Avoid looking at social media at least 30-60 minutes before bed, and write down your worries to get them out of your head. Lying on the floor with your legs up against the wall is also a great relaxer and sleep inducer.” – Laila Datoo, EventFuel

“Get to sleep earlier, our bodies produce the most growth hormone between 22:00 and 00:00. GH = youth hormone, which repairs and regenerates all of your tissues.” _ Mark Maher, Boulevard Events

“I’m a big fan of routine, I have a bed and wake time for weekdays and weekends, and I don’t force myself for them to be the same. No tea for at least an hour before bed and no screens in the bedroom!” – Laura Capell-Abra, No More Ifs Or Buts and Director of Engagement

“The bedroom is for sex and sleep! If you have to use it for other things try and zone the room so you have separation. Routine is vital, make an appointment for bedtime, put it in your calendar and set an alarm. Make the room luxurious and treat yourself to nice sheets and bed wear, and also make it dark like a cave.” – Mel Noakes, Melissa Noakes International

“As a mum I understand totally the importance of a routine at bedtime for little humans. We all had them when we were children, bath, bottle, book, bed? Why not when we’re adults? Treat yourself to some ‘you time’ before going to bed, have a relaxing bath, read a book, small things that will become intrinsic to triggering your brain to switch off.” – Helen Moon, Managing Director

Try some of these and let us know how you get on, in the morning of course!

We’ll leave you with one of our favourite sleep quotes:

“Laugh and the world laughs with you, snore and you sleep alone.”   Anthony Burgess

*Morpheus is son of Hypnos, the Greek god of sleep and dreams
