Quick tips for accentuating the positive in difficult times

In difficult times it can be incredibly challenging to remain positive and, it can seem that our emotions are taking over our capability to be happy. Positive thinking however, is in our control as it’s a choice and, whilst we cannot control the situation that we find ourselves in, we can control how we react to it.

Positive thinking attracts positive experiences and, can help foster greater happiness in our day to day lives. Here are some of our top tips for accentuating the positive in difficult times.

Use a daily affirmation

This can be a simple positive statement that will help you start the day or week on a positive note. It can be a quote that you create yourself, or one from someone else that you admire and relate to. Keep it somewhere visible so that you can keep referring back to it, and focus on it when you are feeling low.

Surround yourself with positive people

This can be difficult in lockdown, but try and choose positive interactions with people online as much as possible. Arrange video calls with friends and colleagues who have a positive outlook. Remember kindness and compassion and that we are all in a difficult situation right now, most importantly this should start with kindness and compassion towards yourself.

Limit negative interactions

Limit your exposure to negative media where possible. Seek out positive media and people and, avoid gossip and negative conversations where you can. Remember this is a time to be lifting each other up, not pulling each other down.

Build friendships

Your support network is incredibly important for your wellbeing and, never has it been more important than now, especially as we come to realise just how important our family and friends are to us. Work on the positivity of friendships and investing time in these important relationships, and take the time to invest in your support network for life.
